Time is one of the most important factors for the 72 first hours after a catastrophe has happened. Until professionals arrive victims have to survive by helping their selves and each other. Through the heapp it will be possible for inhabitants to rescue victims in an efficient way.
All you need for heapp is a smartphone connected to internet. heapp is made up of an extern directional microphone plus an easy software-app which can be installed on each smartphone.
If you want to use heapp you have to put the extern microphone into the connector which is usually used for earphones. So when you are standing right before a collapsed building you just need to place the microphone at a save and adequate place. Then it’s time to start the heapp software-app. Because of the characteristics of a directional microphone sounds from a particular direction can be picked up. It could be a hyper-cardioid or a shotgun microphone which are unidirectional. So the microphone records sounds of entombed people. The recordings are sent to the smartphone. They get converted to signals and increased by the software-app. Now it is possible to identify the recorded sounds as for example voices, heartbeats or movements. How could the signals be identified? heapp includes also a big database where possible sounds are archived. So if you record a sound the frequencies are automatically compared with characteristic sounds in the database. Finally you get the information which type of sound you just detected. Victims which are alive can be found earlier and helpers can work more efficient by knowing where victims are located.
